Earthship Design Principles

19 04 2011

Earthship Biotecture creates buildings that… * Heat and cool themselves naturally via solar/thermal dynamics * Collect their own power from the sun and wind * Harvest their own water from rain and snow melt * Contain and treat their own sewage on site * Produce food in significant quantities * Utilize materials that are byproducts of modern society like cans, bottles and tires http://www.earthship.com

@steyaertr … instead of the ‘earthship-villa’.

This is great. Amazing concept. But, just one flaw.
This is a very individualistic concept. No collective thinking what so ever.
An ‘earthship’ that accomodates multiple families, now that would earn the crown on contemporary ecological design.
As long as ecological design stays a privilege for the few then you can only speak of a ‘green gadget’. When it becomes something for the many then you have a worthy ecological revolutionary concept.
I’d like to see the ‘earthship-village’.

@DaliaDawn I’m sorry, but global warming is scientific fact. The planet’s temperatures have cycled up and down for ages. Since the Industrial Revolution, the warm cycle has sped up. The planet should not be this warm for many thousands of years. Governments will up taxes because of it because they are irresponsible with their resources, and corporations will create fear of it so they can sell more product. The trick is to see through that and start being green without the latest “green” gadget.

Totally beautiful. The only thing I don’t agree with is the last statement about Global Warming. Global Warming is a BS agenda from the controlling powers on this planet. We need to stop being wasteful and damaging to Life, but not because of some NWO agenda hoax set up to fear monger & increase taxation. Much love and supprt to ingenious design!

@FlatfootJohnny dude thats so true, it’s money mongering wealth hoarders (~1% of the human population) , that have 99% of the money. they control what direction civilization moves in with their corporations, puppet democracies (hidden fascism), and religion. that’s what power is all about, control. it’s the wrong kind of power, but power nonetheless.

I wonder how much it would cost start to finish in the UK. This is a great idea but seems to me that it only works in warm climates and the UK is far from that.

@FlatfootJohnny A lot of people are stupid, misinformed, brainwashed, conformant and conservative, in sense that they’re sometimes literally afraid of changes and never take the time to think through the situation. On top of that, technology like Earthship endangers the status quo of business world. Neither government nor business men don’t want us to be free. They need us to proft, they can’t just do that alone.

Anyway, this is how we should live by all means. All people of the Earth.

@roguegirl29
That’s like saying it’s ok to pay $10 for a bread ’cause the baker needs a holiday.
I’m buying a product, I’m not making a donation to support his way of life.
Adobe is already recognized by a lot of building codes. Nontheless a lot peeps who choose this lifestyle are really not spending $5000 on a drawing.
Not to mention that in order to come up with $5000 I’ll have to make at least $15000, minus taxes, travel back and fort etc etc. How sustainanble is that?

@ghughi4 Are you trying to be funny? Or just plain stupid?

@pauluminous Yeah, it’s not like he needs money for, say, travel, or materials. An Earthship is not a conventional home, so of course it’s not going to comply with building codes. Get over yourself.

wha wha whaaat???? Goats for meat……that’s it, this can’t be good for humankind if they are wanting to hurt those poor goats to eat their meat. hahahahah

@ziggyhuys

I was watching a bunch of video’s talking about the possible earth changes coming up (like a pole shift, increased volcanic activity and storms…) so I thought that this kind of design would do well in such extreme conditions. I love how it’s designed to grow food and collect water and energy. So even if all these crazy things don’t happen, I still think it’s worth it to build this kind of home.

19 04 2011
ziggyhuys

@SinnNorth Why do you specify these homes on that meaning?I don’t get your point.

I could see these making it through 2012!

And instead of promoting this on a wide scale and make it accessible to a large crowd you charge $5000 just for the plans of a 800sq/f studio? And it doesn’t even comply with local building codes. ?

Amazing! It always seemed crazy to me that we use potable water to flush our toilets. We should have as many of these as possible!
