KompoZer, Super Speed Demo!

15 04 2011

kompozerhowto.com This is a brief SPEED DEMO on the features of KompoZer. I go really fast to show that it is easy to create a fully functional website in a few minutes. NOT a tutorial, and the tutorial videos are much more thorough. KompoZer is just as powerful as Dreamweaver but without the price. It is available as a free download, since it is open source software. Check it out on my website.

Kompozer is a great way to learn html… very clean. Looking forward to see how much it advances over the years.

@EdSantilli thanks for the feedback. I agree with you. Alas, I created this video in my IM infancy, and unfortunately, it’s withstood the test of time. 🙂

@manzilla86 hahahaha. Thanks. If I had any idea that this video would be so popular, I would have done it much better. But perhaps that’s part of its allure. I put this up two years ago when all I knew about the internet was what was shared in this video. Anyway, much has been learned since. Let me know how I can help.

Thanks for the nice tutorial. I know you called it “super speed demo”, but it should have been called, “The speed every fricken tutorial should be.” I just wasted 20 minutes before this watching some dude explain how to make the text bold, underlined, etc. I thought he was going to get somewhere, and then it ended! If you don’t know how to bold a fricken document why are you building websites!!!

Sorry about the venting.

This is a nice little tutorial. Better than most of the videos people are posting. If you want it to be better, you should remove your face from the bottom right. It’s only there for vanity purposes and gets in the way quite often.

@SirTomTrouble The best way to control everything on an HTML page is to edit the source code itself. WYSIWYG editors are cool, but browsers read HTML code, so that is where it’s at.

At the bottom of the Kompozer window, you will see a set of tags which tell you the exact part of the code you are editing when you select something on the screen. Click the “Source” tab, which looks to be at the bottom right on your video and make your changes in there. Hope this helps, I’m out of space to respond.

Got the new kompozer release… 0.8b3 … They fixed HTML-frames now. I know it sucks (and thats why the kompozer team hesitated to put it in) but i could’nt edit old webpages because kompozer couldnt read them. Now i can. I dont need dreamweaver anymore because kompozer is just as good. Awsome peace of software, should be the default software for all webdesigners!

@entyceit Technically speaking, you can do anything with Kompozer that you would do in Dreamweaver. The difference is that Kompozer is open source (free) and may not be quite as slick or user friendly all the time. But it’s also not $400.

O man, you should learn to use css, way better than a layout with a table. Not to hard to by hand but i’m not sure about in kopozer

Great video Josh! I learned more about how to create a website in this 9 minute video than if I spent $100’s on ebooks etc. I’ll definitely be buying your tutorials whenever I feel like I need them. Probably if I experiment with CSS

Seems like you may have erased your progress then saved it that way. You may need to start over, unless you had a back up. That’s a bummer. I hope there wasn’t too much invested in that page.

Hmmm. That’s a good question. I know it is possible, but a little more difficult using straight HTML and out of my realm, to be quite honest. I’ve found it easier to do the more complex Content Management type stuff with WordPress. On there, submenus can be created and arranged with a couple of clicks. Maybe try the “Kommunity” and see if anyone can help you there.

thank you josh.
how can I make sub menu?

hmmm. Not sure about that one, but it’s certainly possible that they haven’t made an upgrade for it yet.

Windows kind of creeps me out a little anyway. 🙂 j/k

I would love to try Kompozer but have tried to no avail to download it. I have Windows 7, is that why I am having problems?

@joshthomas80yt thx man yesterday i didn’t watch the hole video cuz the internet connection was too slow but today I watch and I see that you have already told people how to create a second page. In fact you are the only man on the internet who tell people CORRECTLY how to publish a second. I search the internet and youtube and all I found is lessons on how to publish the first page which is pretty easy. And you are the only one on youtube to answer the questions of people thanks a lot 😛

Thanks. I use screenflow. WELL worth the 99 bucks if you do a lot of these things.
